My Second Practicum at Philippine Airlines

I had my second practicum with the same establishment, same company, same department, same division but different office.

I was assigned at the Equipment and Supplies Office, still under the Cabin Services Sub-Department. They are more likely getting male trainees than of female trainees because the work is more on carrying cabin cases, suit cases and other cabin equipment yet I still insisted to be part of this office. And there were no regrets at all. I really enjoyed the work. It was not exhausting than what it looks like. Good thing, I was adaptable and flexible enough to adjust in a new environment. My first practicum was more on clerical work while the second one is more into socializing and providing the needs of the cabin crews.

I learned to be more careful and responsible. There was a time that I haven’t monitored whether the flight steward had made his signature on the withdrawal form. It happened during my first day of training so I lost my nerve and felt bad about it. I was so careless that I searched for piles of papers searching for whose signature was that. Good thing, the flight steward went back at the office for he forgot to get his uniform. Since then, I became more alert and responsible.

I am very much thankful of this opportunity, I learned a lot.

This is what our office looks like.

It was really fun and challenging for we competed with our fellow trainees coming from the different department.

We were so attached and were bonded like a family. I had my last day at PAL last March 13, 2015.

My OJT Experience at Philippine Airlines

"On the Job Training is one of the last challenges a graduating student will have to face before throwing their caps in the air."

I had my training at Philippine Airlines under the Cabin Services Sub-department, Administration and Support Services Division and rendered my service for 6 months.

It was more on clerical works which is actually not new to me for I had my first experience at school when I worked as a student assistant at the Guidance and Counselling section. We were taught on how to use the photocopier machine, fax machine and the Oracle application which is being used by the cabin crews and employees.  One must be very familiar in using the Microsoft office application. The staffs in our department have been using the Microsoft Excel also and they let trainees encode such documents using this application.

All trainees were treated like regular employees. We were taught on how to answer phonecalls, entertain cabin crews’ inquires and questions, use the photocopier machine to print and xerox documents, sort confidential files and file them at their respective folders and notifies cabin crews with the use of their mailbox.

We sort and file these pile of papers everyday.

This is the best place to meet new people and make new friends. I've met new friends from Far Eastern University, PATTS, Centro Escolar University Mendiola and Lyceum. I would say that they are all nice and very approachable.

I've learned a lot. I could say that one of the best things that I had experienced was when we've attended wet runs. We were tasked to act like regular passengers as the newly employed flight attendants and stewards to simulate food service during the flight. I don't actually attend wet runs because of the free meal, I attend wet runs because of the knowledge and learning I would gain through observation.

I’ve witnessed the overall operation of Philippine Airlines and I might as well say that everything runs so flawless. Even their hiring process down to the all the managerial and staff service assistance is very much impeccable.

Having my OJT here at PAL made me more motivated to become a flight attendant.
